Studies show that adding a TRUBLUE Auto Belay to your rock climbing wall design grows membership and increases revenue, so it’s not surprising that gyms are calling their climbing wall supplier and scrambling to get them on their walls. However, a lot of businesses make the mistake of simply hanging them without recognizing their value beyond the appeal to single climbers – or even their value in a setting outside of a gym! Check out these unique uses for your TRUBLUE to see how you can get the most out of your auto belay purchase.
Training and Programming
With the TRUBLUE, you can increase your student to teacher ratio, therefore reducing staffing needs and increasing revenue. When you don’t need extra people to belay, more participants can climb and an instructor or supervisor can easily keep an eye on all students at once. A perfect example of this is the Reach Your Peak program – Chris Wall, the head trainer at the Boulder Rock Club, is able to effectively instruct 8 climbers of varying abilities with only him as the leader thanks to the freedom the TRUBLUE gives him to be anywhere in the gym at any time while teaching his class.
Without the knot tying and belaying, it’s also easier to get more climbs in during a shorter period of time. Your members will notice this right away during their visits to your gym, but you can use it as well to your advantage as a gym owner. Putting TRUBLUE’s on programming walls means that those who are taking an hour class can now get more climbs in than they could have without the auto belay in the same amount of time. More climbs means more opportunity for students to fall in love with the sport and higher chances for them to get hooked and come back again.
Learn to Lead Climb
One very overlooked feature of the TRUBLUE Auto Belay is the ability for climbers to learn how to lead without a partner. Clip on the TRUBLUE, tie on your rope, and away you go! Climbers get a great chance to really be in the zone, focused, and practicing clipping without having to worry about finding a partner. For those first learning, it’s a great way to get them introduced in a private environment without feeling watched or judged. It also lets them practice on their own no matter what time of day and whether or not they came with a friend.
Outside of the Gym – Adventure Courses
Several adventure courses have been picking up on the TRUBLUE’s usefulness outside of the climbing gym. A very popular feature TRUBLUE has been incorporated into is the leap of faith – climbers stand on a platform, clip into the TRUBLUE, and jump off while aiming for a target. The target can be on the ground, or hanging in front of them – either way it is a challenging and exciting feature, and the TRUBLUE safely lowers participants back to the ground.
Outside of the Gym – Schools
Rock climbing walls for schools are growing in popularity, and offering a TRUBLUE reassures students, parents, and teachers alike that all activities will be safe and well supervised. No longer is the gym teacher on belay while trying to keep his or her eye on the class – with the TRUBLUE, all belaying-related accidents are eliminated and teacher is free to supervise and instruct without distraction.
Outside of the Gym – At Home
Of course, there are uses for the TRUBLUE at home, too! They make very handy (and heavy) dog leashes, we hear. Thanks to a fan for submitting this photo!
