Gordon McArthur Prepares For The Olympics With TRUEBLUE Auto Belays

Canadian ice climber Gordon McArthur is headed to the Olympics.  Gord is currently training for a showcase of ice climbing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and TRUBLUE Auto Belays is right there with him!

Gord is a fiercely dedicated climber – so much so that he has his own custom IMG_6026webfree-standing climbing arch in his backyard where he practices for competitions and the Sochi Ice Climbing Showcase. Unfortunately, training on his arch was often put on hold when there was no belayer available to help him out.

Enter the TRUBLUE, who will be his climbing partner throughout the training process.  As Gord says, “Using the auto belay, you can put your head down and give’r until you just can’t anymore. For me, training with the TRUBLUE allows me to push as hard as possible and feel fully accomplished at the end of my training session. It’s the way forward.”

Gord will be using the TRUBLUE Auto Belay, to prepare for the ice climbing showcase that will take place during the 2014 Olympics, and will be sharing with his followers and our clients his experience with how his new equipment impacts his training.  You can follow his progress on Gord’s Blog, and through periodic updates from TRUBLUE Auto Belays.

Participants in the showcase were chosen based off of, knowledge of different languages, coaching or mountain guiding experience, goodwill and friendliness, as well as skill level. The UIAA hopes that the exposure will increase global interest in the sport, as well as encourage people to try ice climbing. Says Urs Stoeker, President of the UIAA, “It is our dream that this is the first step towards ice climbing becoming a full-fledged Olympic sport, and the future depends on how well we can present our sport in Sochi.”
